History

The Children's Chorus of Bay Ridge was formed in September of 2005 by Sara Paar and David Rommereim, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.  The Chorus was designed to fill the gap left by disappearing music programs in schools and to help build connections between the various groups within Bay Ridge's community.  The Chorus has had four very successful terms, including one summer session that ran for six weeks.  They have also enjoyed performing at different community events, such as the Bay Ridge Festival of the Arts and Bay Ridge United Church's Performance Coffee House.  Last fall the Children's Chorus was very excited to be invited to sing with the Bella Voce Singers of Park Slope under the direction of Jessica Corbin.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to inspire the joy of creating music together in an environment that reflects the diversity of our Brooklyn neighborhood, both in the chorus's membership and in the repertoire we learn.  It is our philosophy that one's relationship with music should always be playful and experimental.

Directors

The Children's Chorus of Bay Ridge is directed by Sara Paar.  Ms. Paar performs regularly with opera and theatre companies in NYC and is a member of the Experience Vocal Dance Company.  She is also an adjunct professor at Kingsborough Community College and the music director at Bay Ridge United Church.  Marie Koutsavlis, the assistant director, is a music therapist and a talented flutist and guitarist.
